Meet The Team – Jane Kerpens-Lee
Spotlight on Jane Kerpens-Lee at VM Finance
As part of our ongoing campaign of introducing you to our roster of dedicated colleagues here at VM Finance, we’re spending a bit of time with our Credit Administration Manager Jane Kerpens-Lee.
As you know, we’ve got a reputation for our client focus here at VM Finance and after serving our clients faithfully for over 30 years (both in Jamaica and here in the UK), Jane has been a huge part VM Finance’s journey and growth.
What do you do at VM?
As the Credit Administration Manager, I manage the loan facility from disbursement until it is redeemed. This involves preparing disbursement documents, making sure that everything is aligned, issuing interest statements, following up on insurance renewals and overseeing the administration of the loan through its term.
What skills are essential for your role?
First and foremost, it’s about teamwork. We all work together to support each other and deliver our service as an integrated team.
To fulfil my role and to support our clients as best I can, I need to be organised and have a high level of attention to detail. It’s crucial to ensure that all documentation is correct in order to prevent errors.
Communication is also key, as we work closely with lawyers and need to ensure clear and precise communication.
Can you share a bit about your work history and experience with VM?
I started working with the Representative Office of VM Building Society in 2005, where we assisted customers who wanted to maintain their relationship with Jamaica through opening an account and obtaining a mortgage for home ownership. It was, therefore, a natural progression to be transferred to VM Finance Ltd when specialised lending began in 2018.
What has kept you loyal to VM for so long?
As I started my career with VM, it’s played an important role in my life. The organisation sees you as an ‘individual’ and not just a team member. I also enjoy the professional manner in which we serve our customers, operating with empathy and friendliness.
What’s more, I value the personal connections I’ve made over the years.
What motivates you in your work?
Helping people motivates me. We’re a customer-centric company and assisting people to achieve their goals is very rewarding. I enjoy supporting my team and helping them do as good a job as possible and seeing the result.
Of course, it’s about meeting targets. But more importantly, it’s about working together to achieve them and ensuring everything is functioning smoothly for everyone involved.
What is the key to maintaining a strong customer focus?
Putting yourself in the customer’s shoes is essential.
You need to think about how you would like to be served and translate that into how you treat your customers. Although we’re a lending institution, we’re still serving people and helping them achieve their goals. This focus on people is a big reason why we’ve got such a reputation for customer service and long-standing relationships.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy visiting historical buildings and gardens, appreciating their layout and history. Coming from a small island, I also love going to the beach and breathing in the fresh sea air. You really can’t beat it.
